Just in case you were wondering, Nolan Ryan doesn’t want to talk about steroids.

Hey, just an FYI - Nolan Ryan doesn’t want to discuss steroids.

Come on ESPN baseball folks - do we really not have anything better to report? I know it’s the offseason and all, but seriously? There has to be something a bit more newsworthy.

Rick Majerus supports abortion and the Catholics are pissed.

So, as if anyone actually gave a damn, but Rick Majerus said that he supports abortion rights, and the Catholics are pissed. Oh well. Come on people - he’s just a basketball coach.

ESPN.com user “RipkinIsClass” did a great job of exposing the absurdity of this story in his user comment. He writes:

I wonder if Majerus is pro-pick and roll, because the Church has a long and distinguished history of eschewing that kind of basketball for a more “inside-outside” style, where a talented post player draws a double team and then kicks out to a sharpshooting guard for the open 3. It’s under the doctrine of “drive-draw-and dish”, about which St. Thomas Aquinas writes so eloquently and forcefully in the Summa Theologica.

Aussie Kid Really Knows How To Party

So this Australian kid decided to throw a party while his parents were out of town. Little did he know that 500 people would show up and chaos would ensue. Is he sorry about the riot that he caused? Of course not. In fact, he claims that if you want to throw a party when your folks are out of town call him up and have him plan it - his was the best party ever, so he’s been told.

Awesome. Well done kid.

The Road To The Super Bowl Travels Through Lambeau

That’s right, Packer fans. We are just one game away.

Who would have thought, 5 months or so ago, that next week the Green Bay Packers would be playing for the NFC title at Lambeau field? Certainly not this guy. But the magic of Brett Favre continues, and the ageless wonder has us just one game away from a return to the Super Bowl.

Brett Favre, you are my sports hero.

USC Season In Review

Oh, what might have been.

Sorry Trojans, a national championship just wasn’t in the works for this season. At least we went out with a bang.

On Monday, USC wrapped up its season with a convincing victory over a very over matched Illinois squad. Finally healthy, the Trojans dominated all facets of the game, leaving the upstart Illini to wonder if they might have been just a tad overrated this season, and the Men of Troy to ponder what might have been.

Entering the bowl season as one of several schools with 2 losses, many claimed that USC was deserving of a shot at the BCS title game. While it is true that at season’s end the Trojans were playing as well as anyone in the country, but the bottom line is that a chance to play for the title is reflective of an entire season - the 75% of the year that USC played well just didn’t cut it. As far as I see it, any team that finds a way to lose to a 41 point underdog at home has no claim to the title - and any member of the media that would claim otherwise is just plain wrong.

While entering this season proclaimed as potentially one of the best college teams ever, there is absolutely no reason to believe that next year could be even better.

Offensively, the Trojans are losing a few valuable contributors, but there is no reason to believe that another great recruiting class and the development of underclassmen will provide an offense any less prolific than it has been in previous seasons. While the graduation of leader and quarterback John David Booty leaves some huge shoes to fill, waiting in the wings are Mark Sanchez and Mitch Mustain, both of whom have starting experience. The rest of the offense is a non issue. USC’s stable of running backs should fill in nicely for leading rusher Chauncy Washington, while the development of several underclassman receivers will ease the pain of the loss of talented tight end Fred Davis. Defensively, while USC losses several talented linemen and speedy outside linebacker Keith Rivers, the Trojans are all about reloading, and should be tough to score on again next season.

Fight on Trojans.
